During the Great American Can Roundup, the United States Naval Academy (USNA), United States Military Academy (USMA), United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) and United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) compete to recycle the most aluminum beverage cans. The academy that recycles the most pounds of aluminum per capita during the contest dates (10 Week Consecutive Period in the Fall of 2016 (USAFA 9/1-11/10, USCGA 9/12-11/21, USMA 9/8-11/17, & USNA 9/19-11/21) wins the Commander-in-Chief Challenge and is named Top recycling Academy.
Winners will be announced via a national press release from CMI, earning you recognition and bragging rights.
Claiming Your Prize
Prizes will be presented in January. Representatives of the top unit from each academy will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in/near Washington, D.C.
Top Academy – Winner of the Commander-in-Chief Challenge
Recycling poundage of all units/companies/squadrons from each academy will be totaled up to determine which academy has recycled the most aluminum cans per capita.
The Top Academy wins:
- $3,000 check to be used for Morale, Welfare and Recreation Programs
- Commander-in-Chief’s Challenge trophy
- National recognition
- Bragging rights for the year
The company or squadron to recycle the most pounds of aluminum per capita at each academy will be named Top Company/Squadron. The four Top Company/Squadrons win:
- $500 check to be used for Morale, Welfare and Recreation Programs
- National recognition and bragging rights
Nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today.
